Palm on the iPhone

Lets hope these guys at StyleTap can get their software working on a iPhone.

Would be so great if I could run all my old Treo applications on the iPhone. The Treo applications I miss the most are:-

Eatwatch for tracking your weight and exercise. Examples of mine are on Flickr

Blood pressure storing and displaying blood pressure and pulse readings
Metro Computing fastest way to places on undergrounds and public transport around the world.
Pocket Quicken Personal finance tool that syncs with Quicken on your desktop.
Screenshot captures the current mobile screen as a jpg image and syncs to your desktop.
Sudoku really neat application that creates sudoku puzzles.
UTS (UtrackSys.com) allows you to track anything that can be measured.

Also missing from the iPhone:-
Search capability of your contacts, notes, emails etc
Note taking and syncing.
Taking videos.
Recording mp3s.
Sending contacts in your address book by sms/bluetooth etc.

Will be interesting to see when I can do all of the above on the iPhone. In the mean time I can keep filling in the application feedback request form at Apple.

Thanks to Download squad for the heads up.

Stop arterial bleeding in 30secs – no torniquet needed!

Interesting post on Wired, 10 things you need in a survival pack I was already aware of most of them.

However, totally new on me is Celox – this is from their website “CELOX™ granules are the first in a new generation of emergency
hemostatic agents. They are simple to use and highly effective. CELOX
granules quickly control even the most severe arterial bleeding. Just
pour it in, pack it, and apply pressure. No specific training is
required.
” it can stop even arterial bleeding in 30 seconds and is available in 2gram pouches.

Seems pretty amazing stuff especially since it can be applied singlehanded by yourself with no training. Unfortunately their website says its not available in Europe, yet. I’m going to try and get some from Red Flare Kits in the USA, a 15gram pack seems to be under £10.

Geoff and his Tweet Cloud

Yet another twitter add on – tweetcloud. This one scans all your tweets and generates a word cloud (like a tag cloud), that is the size of the word is the frequency that the word has appeared in my tweets.

Currently the favourites are:- new, blog, post.

Pretty amazing all the little applications being built around twitter.

Return of the Isle of Ely

Discovered the Google Maps mania post, in Scobles Google reader shared items, on the effects of sea level rises around the world.

Here is the map for around Cambridge with the Ely returning to its Island status with only a 2 metre rise in sea levels.
Here in Cambridge it would need a 12m rise. It would no longer mean a 70mile trip to Hunstanton to go to the seaside 🙂
