Stop arterial bleeding in 30secs – no torniquet needed!

Interesting post on Wired, 10 things you need in a survival pack I was already aware of most of them.

However, totally new on me is Celox – this is from their website “CELOX™ granules are the first in a new generation of emergency
hemostatic agents. They are simple to use and highly effective. CELOX
granules quickly control even the most severe arterial bleeding. Just
pour it in, pack it, and apply pressure. No specific training is
required.
” it can stop even arterial bleeding in 30 seconds and is available in 2gram pouches.

Seems pretty amazing stuff especially since it can be applied singlehanded by yourself with no training. Unfortunately their website says its not available in Europe, yet. I’m going to try and get some from Red Flare Kits in the USA, a 15gram pack seems to be under £10.

  1. I heard Hemcon bandages are better to use. Something about Celox powder traveling into the bloodstream and causing problem clots. Hemcon bandages are made from Chitosan and stop severe arterial bleeding just as quickly but without the mess and potential danger of powders.
