The Way We Eat Now: "'The best single behavioral predictor of obesity in children and adults is the amount of television viewing,' says the School of Public Health's Gortmaker." and thats mainly through the advertising. Very interesting article especially this Morgan "Spurlock decided to eat all his meals at McDonald's for a month.......The doctors were like, 'You have to stop.'" In one month on the fast-food regime, he gained 25 pounds."
This is a great idea . Photograph yourself and your family on the same day, in this case June 17th, every year and see the changes . So simple a concept but so beautifully done.Time

In answer to this article An amazing reply from the inventor of Minux and who is now defending Linus Torvalds (even though they did have a heated debate in the past. Pretty obvious is that the Alexis de Tocqueville Institution and its Ken Brown is a pretty creapy outfit. And where do they get their funding? Thanks to ablog for the link.

Just found this source apparently confirms "A Microsoft spokesman confirmed that Microsoft provides funding to the Alexis de Tocqueville Institution."

After reading a terrible tale from here I thought I would dig a bit deeper to find a removal programme. This one seems ok although havent tried it myself. A better scheme is probably to use the Firefox browser.

Here is another good news blog
Interesting story from a soldier in Iraq this with posts from the Iraqi bloggers bodes well for the future of Iraq. Amy Ridenour's National Center Blog: A New E-Mail from the Front in Iraq: "I Ask That the American People Be Brave"
What is interesting is how my personal views on the war are been affected by reading the Iraqi blogs rather than the national press. Maybe the war was started on false reasons etc but surely it must be good to rid the world of a corrupt dictator and his family. I was very surprised that the FT this morning carried the picture of a beheading. When they never carried the pictures of Iranian (and probably) Iraqi people been hung from cranes etc.

Here are links to some Iraqi bloggers:-

Very interesting article from a Californian VC here "Hubbert's Peak" about when the oil will run out.

Dr. Hubbert (in response to remarks by David Nissen - Exxon): "... [T]here is a different and more fundamental cost that is independent of the monetary price. That is the energy cost of exploration and production. So long as oil is used as a source of energy, when the energy cost of recovering a barrel of oil becomes greater than the energy content of the oil, production will cease no matter what the monetary price may be." [referenced by Ivanhoe, 1982]

I remember reading about nuclear power stations requiring several years of their energy output just to build them. Wonder if it takes into accounts efficiency
The gmail spam filter is now working much better. Out of the 82 spam received in last 18 hours or so the filter correctly identified 73 of them. Seems strange that the filter works better after posting a reply on the extremetech forum herewere they were reviewing gmail.

Finally got blogger to generate a RSS feed from my website, secret given toi me on blogger forums was to put a forward slash at start and end of directory. Lets see if this pops up on my blogroll at Bloglines now.
Last night tried to set up the RSS function on my blog with the help from this post

Blogger went of air with some outdated message from last year. This morning I wake up to awhole new blogger, the interface is completly rehashed with help files etc and a much better way of showing old posts. However, tried publishing the whole site again to get the RSS feed in place. Comes up with a message after it has published about 10% that it has failed:-
553-"http://www.geoffjones.com" Directory does not exist on file:http://www.geoffjones.com/rss/rss.xml
.. damm

read new help file apparently shoulduse just /rss for feed directory. However, still fails after 18% thistime with error:-
550- 2004_03_08_nuyu_archive.htmlNo space left on device Error in upload on file:2004_03_08_nuyu_archive.html

this time at 50% 550- blogger.htmlNo space left on device Error in upload on file:blogger.html

now turn off rss function

Another test, this time I put step1 in the blogger template , rather than in the web site page

Came up with error 550 550- blogger.htmlNo space left on device Error in upload. Web host says I have 6MB left. This is so frustrating!

Tried republishing entire site rather than just latest. Comes back with
Current Status: Publishing is in progress. Please check back shortly.

Interesting facts about my gmail account. In the 7 days I have had it opened 843 spams have arrived (from a redirection I set on the geoff@cortexcontrollers.com account) of these google succesfully put 424 into the spam box. The spam now occupies 2MB of space so in around 10 years the spam will fill my gmail account!
